The Waiting Room
My father met with a road accident and is currently in ICU — thankfully he is out of danger. But there are people still waiting to hear the news on their loved ones, this poem is dedicated to them.
The waiting room near the ICU
Is always filled with such anticipation
No one knows what the outcome will be
Will their loved one be fine, or not?
The only sound is the occasional sniffle
Or the sound of someone trying to refrain from crying
For what will they do
If their loved one doesn't make it through?
The feeling in the room is one of dread
As everyone wonders what will happen next
And if their loved one will be alright
Or if they'll be saying their final goodbyes
I saw in front of my eyes
A mother lost her 3-year-old son
She was weeping and hugging my mother
He was no more her little one
The mother in the waiting room
Lost in her pain
She was unaware of her surroundings
The only thing she could feel was the rain
I saw a father who had already buried his one child
While the other one was fighting for his life
He was silent, but his eyes said it all
He was just waiting for the final call
I saw a young couple, barely out of college
They were holding onto each other
The girl was praying, the boy was trying to be strong
They both hoped that it wouldn't be long
With the sound of the clock ticking away
Each second feels like an eternity
The waiting room near the ICU
Is always filled with such agony
Oh God, grant us patience
And give us the strength to bear
Whatever may come our way
In this room filled with despair
